A Family Vacation

With the downturn in the economy, many families are reconsidering summer vacations.  The typical week at the beach or trip to a resort has become too costly for some.

However, although renting a house or booking a hotel for the week is quite expensive, there are other options for vacation.  Maybe this is the summer to give camping a try.

Back from Oak Ridge, TN

Here I am! Safe in my dorm room in Boston, Massachusetts, after surviving the flight on a Dash 8~100; that may sound fancier than your B 747-400, but in reality it was a two propeller plane with nine rows that sat 37 people. To make it even funnier, the last row was like the last row of a car--stretching from window to window with a middle seat that looks down the whole aisle.

Saturday was the first day of Spring Training 2009 for the Northeastern University Women's Rowing team. After traveling on Friday from 6:30am until 4pm by taking a series of flights, we found ourselves in a hotel in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. You're probably thinking, why Tennessee? Can you even row in Tennessee? Just imagine my thoughts when I heard that we would be rowing in Tennessee rather than Coco Beach, Florida. Well, it turns out that Tennessee has an amazing race course in which races, such as national championship regattas, are held! Who would have known?
