A Trip with the Kids to Massabesic Audubon Center

July 22nd, 2008 by TK

A hot and humid Saturday in July did not stop two of my kids and I from enjoying some of the outdoors.

On this weekend day in New Hampshire, we decided to go to the Massabesic Audobon Center in Auburn. It is a small center with a couple trails that are 1 to 2 miles long and an educational center.

The trails are flat and well marked, which make them perfect for my kids. In the sweltering heat, it was nice to have the canopy of trees covering almost the entire hike. At the end of

the trail is Battery Point, the former site of a tea house that attracted gentry to the nearby shores of Lake Massabesic, which is the water supply for Manchester.

After about two hours of hiking, the kids enjoyed exploring the education center, especially the barn owl, Bev, who has her home there.

All in all, it is a great way to spend part of a day with the kids.
