Camping and S’mores

July 15th, 2008 by Bea

One of my all-time favorite outdoors activities is camping. My family usually goes to Pawtuckaway State Park in New Hampshire. It is not too far away from where we live, and it’s a great place to camp. Not only does the campground have your typical forest setting, but it also has a lake that you can use. There are even spots that allow you have that island-side feel. It has a store, beach, playground, fields, and more. It’s a ton of fun to camp there, especially if you are with a family.

Camping is a great down to earth family activity. With no technology (hopefully) to disturb you, it’s such a good way to get away from the busy world. Camping allows you to experience the pure joy of each other’s company. Whether it be through card games, sitting around a fireplace, or making s’mores.smores

If you haven’t made a s’more. You haven’t lived life. Apparently, they don’t make s’mores in Europe. Whenever one of my cousins or friends from Europe visits, my family makes sure to set up the fire pit to make s’mores. To make a s’more, start off by getting your “sandwich” ready. Get a graham cracker, break it in half, and place a piece of chocolate on one of the halves. Next, roast a marshmallow. Some people like their marshmallows burned, others like them golden brown, and others have a mixture of the two. After roasting the marshmallow, place it on top of the graham cracker and the chocolate (the marshmallow should melt the chocolate) and then put the other half of the graham cracker on top! I find it most efficient and less messy to use the crackers to hold the marshmallow and pull out the stick.

I can’t wait to go camping again!
