Fly Fishing 101

October 7th, 2008 by Rosanne Lorraine

Fly fishing is a favorite hobby among countless individuals. But for some individuals, it is an art form that takes years to perfect. Whatever the case might be, one thing is certain: fly fishing is a great pastime that will help you relax and enjoy nature. A lot of fishermen have built camaraderie with their friends by taking fly fishing trips around the country.

Some anglers are happy to fish during the weekends, while some only can be satisfied by going away, for weeks at a time, to their favorite fishing destinations. Other die-hard angers dedicate most of their waking hours trying to find the best bait by understanding the behavior of their favorite catch. For most of us, though, experiencing the excitement of fly fishing by feeling the push and pull is enough to give us much-needed satisfaction.

Species to Pursue

Most fly fishermen pursue trout, but there are also those who go for marlin, largemouth bass, tarpon, and sharks. There are countless species you can choose from, so you needn’t worry of getting bored with the pursuit of a single species. And even if you decide to concentrate on trout, there are other types of trout aside from everyone’s favorite, the rainbow trout. Other species you can pursue include brown trout, golden trout, lake trout and steelhead trout.

Places for Fly Fishing

There is no limit to the places you can choose to try this sport. You can catch your favorite game in both saltwater and freshwater. Some fishermen prefer to fish in the ocean, while some find it more convenient to fish at nearby lakes. It is also a fact that a lot of fly fishermen hone their skills at work before they practice this craft in the natural environment.
