When the beach gets boring or the trails become familiar, you should try out a different activity- kayaking!
Kayaking is a great sport for your arms and your mind. It is extremely relaxing to be in a kayak. If you are not fighting a current, you often find yourself flowing along the river or lake. The sound of the water crashing against the kayak is so soothing and the rhythm that you create by paddling left, right, left, right, puts you in the zone. The only thing you have to worry about is not hitting the land below you or dropping off of a waterfall, but with careful planning you can certainly avoid that!
Kayaking is a different sport than paddling along in a boat. You move a lot faster, and the boat moves with your every move. However, it is hard to tip over. It is a lot of work for your arms if you’re going against the
current or if you go on a long trip, but it is definitely a great workout. You also get a lot further than you would have if you were walking or running. I would suggest packing a lunch and kayaking to an island to eat.
You always should be safe and wear a life jacket. It also would be best to go with a friend or a group of people. Though you may need that alone time and one on one time with nature, kayaking with a friend is a ton of fun! Also, someone should know where you are or where you plan to be. Be safe and smart!
Many public beaches or lakes have places to rent a kayak for the day. I would highly recommend trying the sport! You will get a great workout, you will relax your mind, and you will connect with nature! What a deal!
