July 8th, 2008 by Rosanne Lorraine

Extreme sports are here to stay. Almost everyone wants to dabble in one form of extreme sport or the other. Nowadays, the buzz seems to be focused on kite surfing; this water recreation sport is basically a combination of surfing and kiting in one exciting package. Kite surfing has taken over some of the most popular beaches as some enthusiasts are excited to explore cool techniques and maneuvers that only can be experienced through this sport.

The dangerous maneuvers you try with kite surfing can vastly improve your surfing skills. Kite surfing also makes use of the power of the ocean and wind to take you to top speeds. You can fly up 20 feet into the air while surfing on water. For thrill seekers, this is definitely the next ultimate sport to try because the adrenalin rush they will experience is simply incredible.

Take note though that it is important for you to take every precaution when trying this sport. Kite surfing is a great water sport, though you need to know its various aspects before you can enjoy it completely. It is recommended for you to hire a licensed instructor to train you before jumping into the water. The basics of kite surfing include:

Kite deployment

Kite surfing safety methods

Jibing

Looping

Jumping

Lines you should use (2 vs. 4)

Types of kites to be used

Even if you are an extreme sporting fan, you should realize that kite surfing is not for everybody because it requires balance, technique, and patience before you really can enjoy what it has to offer.

However, before you do anything “extreme” try to check with a local kite surfing association if there are any in your area. You can discover all the information you need so you will be prepared before you travel to a new frontier. On the other hand, you also can ask a local extreme sporting association if you cannot find one that specifically deals with kite surfing.
