Having spent this past Sunday hiking Mount Monadnock, my fiance and I were curious about an urban
legend. Is this mountain the second most hiked mountain in the world?
Upon completing our hike, we stopped at the park ranger station and asked. The reply we were given is that Mount Monadnock is the third most hiked mountain in the world. The ranking is as follows:
3. Mount Monadnock
2. Mount Fuji
1. Mount Tai
Interestingly, according to an assortment of data found on the Internet, not all park rangers keep track of the number of hikers per year. Also, other sites noted that both Mount Fuji and Mount Tai have public transportation to access the mountain.
Regardless to whether Mount Monadnock is the third most hiked mountain in the world, I can assure you that it is a great hike. If you are interested in a few hour hike that can be taken using trails with different levels of difficulty in New England, Mount Monadnock is a great choice.
