2011 Unofficial Tubing Guide
by Mackenzie M. June 24th, 2011 | Summer Activities, Water Sports
It seems that no matter where you are in America, the activity of tubing is becoming increasingly popular. Tubing usually involves gathering up some friends and a cooler and simply floating down a creek or river of some sort. Tubing is a cheap and fun summer activity, that can either be peaceful and relaxing, or your worst nightmare. Tubing is absolutely my favorite summer pastime. After going several times, there are certain things I have found to avoid and others to prepare for. So, from one tubing enthusiast to another, here is your unofficial tubing guide for
Dealing With Rain on a Hike
by Louise April 21st, 2011 | Hiking
It's spring! The flower buds have been making appearances, and warmer weather is on the way, but we're not home-free just yet; we still have April to get through. Unfortunately, we can't have our May flowers without the April showers. Of course, being on a hike during rainfall is less than ideal, but we can't let a bit of water keep us off the mountains, can we?
Here are a few tips for when the weather turns wet:
Here are a few tips for when the weather turns wet:
- Invest in a lightweight, breathable rain jacket (for your pack). It will be expensive. It will be worth it.
- Wear synthetic materials that wick moisture
Sarah Palin: Outdoorsmen’s Best Advocate?
by TK February 2nd, 2011 | Outdoor Activities
In the time when everyone has a reality show, Sarah Palin did not miss out on her opportunity of 15 more minutes of fame with her show, Sarah Palin's Alaska, on TLC.
Although I have never watched a full episode, I will admit that I have seen glimpses and clips of the show. The entertainment merits of the show did not really matter to me. But what was of interest, were the great scenes of Alaska and the outdoor activities.

Teen Perspective: Getting Youngsters to Hike
by Louise January 25th, 2011 | Hiking
It's important to get "outdoors with the kids." The question is, how do you achieve this with the fewest amount of complaints? How do you say, "Let's go on a hike!" without hearing a response of grumbles? First things first: don't call it a hike. This just translates to "grueling, extensive, and uphill walk." Instead, make the suggestion, "Let's go exploring!" or, "Let's go on an adventure!" and say it with enthusiasm (unless you're dealing with a tween or teen who won't buy this anymore).

Camping: It is a local thing
by TK December 14th, 2010 | Camping, Outdoor Activities
Spending the night in the great outdoors is one of the great joys of the outdoors life. The great part of camping is that it can take on a million different meanings depending on who you ask. For some people it delivers a vision of mountains and the brisk air of the morning. For others, it means the sound of surf and the mist of the salty ocean air.
No matter what part of the globe you are on, one thing is certain: there are camping opportunities local to wherever you are.
