Arkansas is overlooked by many as a hiking destination or a vacation destination; however, “the natural state” is more than just Little Rock and cotton. The beautiful mountains of northwest Arkansas provide hundreds of amazing hiking opportunities. Also, the Ouachita Mountains in the western part of the state provide natural trails with views that rival even those of the Great Smoky Mountains. Furthermore, the Ozark National Forest includes over 395 miles of trails. Overall, Arkansas is a great place to take a hike, and listed below are some of the best trails.

Although it is the largest city in the state, and has a plethora of attractions,

Continuing with the “Take a Hike” series, this week features a destination that is known for its pristine, and deadly, natural beauty, untouched desert landscapes, and warm winter temperatures. The Phoenix, Arizona area is known as the valley of the sun for good reason. Summer temperatures are frequently in the triple digits, and even in the winter, the weather remains incredibly dry and warm. Phoenix is situated in the midst of majestic desert mountains, rugged, cactus-lined trails, and hiking areas that fit any hiker’s preferences.

This weekend I was given the opportunity to head up to Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine. The last time that I had been there was over ten years ago, so I was pretty excited when my friend offered me an irresistible deal on a bus ride up and a two-night stay in a slopeside condo.

With snow, I think that Sugarloaf, or "the loaf," could be an awesome place. They are currently working on an expansion that could make my head turn once they finish up with it. They have Phase I done, and that by itself is already very enticing
